Adieu Autozug :-(

The Autozug ("car train") of the Deutsche Bahn is about to come to a halt. For good. In 2017 this lovely train will be "no more" (just like Monty Python's parakeet); a train which for decades over night brought bikers and their bikes (along with cars and their drivers) e.g. from Lörrach (South Germany) to Hamburg so they could start their journey to Scandinavia after a good night sleep. Especially drivers from Switzerland, Italy and Northeast France were thankful for the almost 1.000 km transport opportunity. The Autozug will definitely be missed.  (...)

DraussenTester talked with James Aslaksen from Deutsche Bahn about why this legendary train will be closed down.
Luggage confusion: Apparently on the route from Lörrach to Hamburg as well as Hamburg to Lörrach there has been confusion about how the luggage must be tied to the motorbikes during the train ride. Some bikers were even asked by Deutsche Bahn staff  to take bags off their bike and stuff them into the -tiny!- sleeping cabins during the complete transportation time. Here are the official rules of the Deutsche Bahn with regards to luggage and bikes:

"On motorcycles only the luggage in saddlebags or motorcycle suitcases attached to the motorcycle may be left. Additionally attached luggage may remain on the motorcycle when it fixed to the motorcycle, and when it is secured with a strap (not elastic) and the lashing points are not covered."

Finally, find below our Interview (in German) with James Aslaksen. And stay tuned: we will be riding the Autozug on August 22. Of course, we will post our commentary on this Blog.
